Quality Backlinks

Making Quality Backlinks

When commenting on blogs, often times the comment panel will allow html. This means you can be a little fancy and often include quality backlinks in your comment. The quality of a backlink can improve by adding the title attribute and having key-worded anchor text. The html used for these attributes is:

<a href=”http://www.yourdomain.com” title=”this is keyworded mouseover text”>this is key worded on-page anchor text</a>

In some cases, the title attribute might not be allowed or you might not want to stand out too much when the moderator reviews your comment. Less HTML decreases the spam look of the backlink. You might keep it more simple by not using the title attribute. The more simple yet still effective backlink HTML looks like this:

<a href=”http://www.yourdomain.com”>this is key worded on-page anchor text</a>

Try the mouseover feature in the link in the next sentence and click on it to learn more about quality backlinks.

Learn more about backlinks.

I used the following HTML to make the link above:

<a title=”backlinks” href=”http://www.seowebmeeting.com/backlinks/”>backlinks</a>.

Backlinks

By admin, July 15, 2010 5:43 pm

There is no sense having a website if you don’t have traffic to your site. The primary goal of commercial websites is to provide valuable information to visitors  that will eventually lead to an increase in business. But if there is no traffic to the website, having one is pointless. Having lots of backlinks is one of the best ways to increase traffic to a website.

A backlink is when there is a link on someone elses website to yours. Backlinks increase your traffic in two ways:
 1. People visiting other peoples websites can click through and visit your site.
 2. Search engines count and rate the links pointing to your site and give ranking preference to the sites with the better backlinks. This makes your site more likely to be found by the search engines.

Not all backlinks are equal. While we don’t know how the different search engines rate backlinks, we know the things that they are likely to give authority to. Here are a few:
 1. relativity – backlinks from pages relative to your web page are better than links from non-relative sites.
 2. pagerank (PR)- backlinks from sites with high page rank, that is, websites that the search engines already see as quality sites, is better than from low ranking sites. Page Ranks are from 0 to 10. Google is a 10. most sites are zero’s.
 3. sponsored TLD’s – backlinks from sponsored Top Level Domains (TLD’s) like .edu and .gov probably carry more authority than backlinks from same ranking .com’s.
4. Anchor Text – Anchor text refers to the words on the page that make up the link. Anchor text with keywords in it is better than non-relative anchor text.

So an attorney with a backlink from the front page of harvard.edu (PR 8) using the word “attorney” for the anchor text to their site would have one heck of a backlink. It would be far better to have that one single backlink than a hundred irrelevant zero PR .com backlinks.

There is plenty of debate over whether or not search engines give credit for no-follow links. No-follow links have code behind the scenes that tells the search engines to not follow the link… such as for indexing purposes. Chances are the search engines give some credit for no-follow links. Afterall, it is clear that they keep count of them. But search engines don’t reveal their algorythems because knowing them would help professional search engine experts promote pages that might not deserve a high ranking.

Backlink Strategies

By admin, June 8, 2010 3:51 pm

The following summary is a backlink strategy taken from “Guru Bob” from 30DC. He talks about a backlink building strategy in a video series. I am just providing the summary.
I. Video 1 Summary:

LINKS FOR INDEXING

At first, creating backlinks is simply for the sake of getting your new website indexed, that is, found by Google and other search engines. To do this, manually submit the site to:

  • Stubleupon
  • Digg
  • Mixx
  • Propeller.com
  • Submit your RSS to the aggregators
  • Use Traffic Bug

LEVERAGED LINK BUILDING

The purpose of this is two get a few hundred low PR links from directories, blog networks, or article networks.

  • Submit your site to directories
  • Write a spun article and submit to blog networks
  • Write a spun article and submit to article networks
  • Use automated services like articlemarketingautomation.com and uniquarticlewizard.com (AMA and UWA)
  • There are paid directory submissions services available on the internet.

II. Video II Summary

Manual Link Building

  • Target sites with PR > 0
  • Look for Blogs, forums and Web 2.0 pages where you can comment or post and include a link.
  • Prioritise to sites that allow follow links but don’t stop from commenting on sites with no follow links
  • Analyse link network of your competition to find candidate sites to get links.
  • Use Market Samurai promotion module

Keyword Research with Market Samurai

Video Trascription of “Keyword Research with Market Samurai”

This is doctor Michael Haley with www.seowebmeeting.com. We are doing market research today using this program Market Samurai. If you haven’t got a copy click right here and go get it.

I’m going to create a new project. Keyword: I’m choosing to start a business that sells Bosch tools. Let me create that and see if there’s any potential business in it. I’m going to generate some key words around Bosch tools. Enter the captcha, submit, and it’s getting Google synonym data around the possible key word Bosch tools. The term Bosch is to big. Bosch sells appliances, all kinds of. Let me analyze these key words. They sell washers, dryers, dishwashers, tools, small kitchen appliances, Bosch is huge.

I am going to get rid of some of these. I have two hundred key words. I want ones with traffic so let me make sure I get a hundred and visitors per day. I’m down to fifty eight. Phrase to broad, I can make sure that I have words more relative to Bosch tools by putting in a phrase to broad of fifteen percent. I’ll refresh my filters and I’m down to forty six. I’ve tried lower numbers. I’ve tried higher numbers. Higher numbers filter out too many. Lower numbers leave junk in your results. Fifteen percent seems to work pretty good.

Based on the forty six,I try to get under fifty before I get my SEO competition, so let me go and analyze key words to get the SEO competition. The SEO traffic of a hundred, that means that Bosch tools if I had the number one web site for that phrase I could expect about a hundred visitors per day. That’s why I put that. I want a hundred visitors per day to my web site.

SEO competition – this tells me how many people are competing for that phrase; how many web pages mention that phrase. You can see tools has got over six hundred seventy eight million web pages mentioning tools. Let me get rid of some of the pages that have too big of numbers here. I don’t want to compete with that big. Let me go sites that have less than fifty thousand competitors. I’ll refresh my filters and now I’m down to twenty one potential key words.

Let me scroll through and look at them. I’m gonna arrange them by the number of searches. Bosch tools on top – a hundred thirty four thousand pages mentioning that. The reason it’s still up here even though it’s above fifty-thousand is because that was my main key word and it shows me what I, what I have to compare to. Bosch battery: lots of searches – low competition. Bosch cordless drill, Bosch eighteen volt, Bosch table saw. The first three have to do with this cordless battery type of tool theme. I like that. I might go do a new theme key word like Bosch cordless tools or something like that. Bosch batteries, Bosch drills, Bosch sanders, Bosch grinders; Lots of searches, lower competition. Bosch grinder, Bosch thirty six volt, Bosch charger, jigsaw, cordless screwdriver, cordless tools, Bosch cordless tools, Three hundred ninety eight, OK so I’m liking this Bosch cordless tools thing. I like cordless tools. I don’t like to work with the a wire, so, let me click on this key right here and start a new theme key word around Bosch cordless tools.

You see it up here. I’ll click on that top tab and do the new key word research based on Bosch cordless tools. Let me generate new key words and start the process over. this is a longer tail key word phrase. Bosch tools was too big. Bosch cordless tools the competition was under fifty thousand competing web pages. Now that I’ve generated new key words around Bosch cordless tools, I click on the analyze button, and it should be getting information for me I’m not sure if it clicked, no, it did get it, Okay.

Now let’s go through the process again. I want hundred visitors per day. I’ll refresh my filters, and I’m down to one hundred twenty three. Phrase to broad is more important now because I have three words in the phrase. So we would put fifteen percent, refresh my filters, and I’m down to a hundred. that’s too many to go bother Google for all of this data I believe. I don’t want Google to ban my IP address. Let me look at some of the these. Let me arrange them by the number of searches. Tools, cordless drill, you know, these ones here are missing the word Bosch. Let me, I wonder how many are missing the word Bosch. Let me modify my key words because my theme is bosch, so I’m gonna use the positive key word: B O S C H and let me update.

Look, I’m down to twenty now. Let me analyze those key words. I’m kind of starting over here. And, traffic value of a hundred. Phrase to broad of fifteen percent. Competition value, oops, I have to analyze my keywords before I can do that. to get that data. I only have twenty keywords now. all right now, let me get rid of everything that, that has, more than fifty thousand competitors. refresh my filters, I’m down to twelve.

I like this. Bosch cordless tools – good theme key word. Bosch battery, Bosch cordless drills, Bosch batteries, Bosch table saw doesn’t seem to fit that cordless theme. I’ll get rid of that one. Bosch drills doesn’t fit the cordless. Bosch impact driver doesn’t say anything about cordless. Bosch chargers, there, Bosch circular saw is not, Cordless screwdrivers, cordless tools, twenty four volt battery, Bosch cordless drills, alright, now I have eight theme categories.

The Bosch cordless tools would be my main theme, my main web site theme. If I can get Bosch cordless tools dot com, that would be a pretty good site to capture some of these visitors. And, my categories can be batteries, and and cordless tools, cordless drills, cordless screw drivers, you get the idea. These terms here are going to support my main theme key word of Bosch cordless tools. Imagine a web site with this written across the top and then links, and some of these words were the links. They’re all good words because they get lots of searches- lots of potential visitors to my sight. They are relative, and the competition – I’ll put them in the order, lowest to highest. The competition is something that I can get a hold of.

So I can beat a lot of these out. there’s only four thousand pages, five thousand competitive competing pages with that phrase. I shouldn’t have too much of a problem. I’ll look at the competition a little bit more in detail on another video. But for now, things are looking pretty good. You see I went from a big word like Bosch to Bosch tools, to Bosch cordless tools? Getting longer tail key words so that I can be more effective in competing in the market. going for a longer tail key word makes it easier to compete in the marketplace.

Alright. That is it for this video. see you on the next one.

How to Forward a Domain Name

How to Forward a Domain Name with GoDaddy Hosting

This is the video transcription:

This is doctor Michael Haley with http://www.seowebmeeting.com and we are going to answer a question about domain names. Let me go to GoDaddy and log in. The question is if you have one of those domain names, you maybe have another web site and you have an extra domain name, maybe it’s the domain name that’s on all of your stationary, but it’s not your best web site. Let’s say that you want that to go not to a web site but maybe point to another web site that’s established. I’ll give you an example. If I go to the domain name http://www.drhaley.com I’m going to enter – instead of that going to http://www.drhaley.com, notice that it goes to my www.mybiopharmacy.com. It’s a kind of like an affiliate type of web site. This is not my web site. It’s my domain name that’s pointed to this so it automatically changed here. That’s called domain forwarding.

So, let me close that, and from GoDaddy, maybe view your domain names in the domain manager, and find the domain name that you’re interested in. In this case, http://www.drhaley.com is an example. And you can take a look right up here. There’s a forwarding button. It says “Forward Your Domain”. Alright, this is if you don’t want to go to a web site, but you want to actually forward it. And, let me click on that forwarding button and see what happens. We go to a screen where you can actually edit that, and here it tells you it goes to the http://www.mybiopharmacy.com/a/1042/. If I wanted to edit that forwarding thing, I can. Alright? but I’m good with it so I’m gonna cancel out of here.

That’s it: “Forwarding a Domain Name”. I’m Michael Haley with http://www.seowebmeeting.com I hope that was helpful. See ya.

Market Research

Market Research with Google

Transcription Follows

This is doctor Michael Haley from www.seowebmeeting.com. we are doing a little market research. This video is paired up with one in which we used Market Samurai. That helped me determine which terms I might use for a web page.

I just did a search for tools. Notice that there are six hundred seventy one million web pages with the word tools on it. That’s probably not a good term to try to get a number one listing on. But if we did “Bosch” tools and search, you see that results one to ten out of about twelve million eight hundred thousand web pages are out there that mentioned both terms of Bosch and tools on it. Still not a market I want to try to compete in. If I put the term cordless in here, Bosch cordless tools, search, notice there are one million seven hundred and fifty thousand web pages that mentioned all three terms but not necessarily in the same order. For instance, that listing on top there you see the word Bosch, cordless, and tools in the description. You see the words Bosch and tools in the domain name. And you see Bosch in the title of the page.

Let’s drill down a little further and do a phrase match for “Bosch cordless tools”. I put quotation marks at the beginning. You can put it just at the beginning or around it and it gives you the same thing. We have results one to ten out of about eleven thousand three hundred. So we have drilled down and found a key word phrase Bosch cordless tools where only eleven thousand three hundred pages have that exact phrase. This might be a market that we can compete in. I say might because we still want to look at the SEO competition module to thoroughly evaluate the top ten competing web pages. That will be, That will be looking at the entire front page here, and analyzing these results in more detail.

If we look at the number one, we see Bosch cordless tools as the title, we see Bosch cordless tools in the description, and in the domaine name we see the word tools. But in the URL, Bosch cordless tools… slash… Bosch-Cordless-tools. So two times we have Bosch cordless tools in the URL, So that first one looks pretty aggressive going after this Bosch cordless tools key word phrase. But again, only eleven thousand three hundred total. To summarize the word tools represents a mega market. Bosch tools is a market within that mega market. Bosch cordless tools is more of a nitch market within the Bosch tools market. And from the Market Samurai key word research, you’ll see that video, or you have already watched it, you will remember, that we came up with four key word phrases: Bosch cordless drills, Bosch cordless screwdrivers, Bosch batteries, and Bosch battery chargers. These would be good key word phrases or categories for my web site targeting bosch cordless tools if I chose to compete in that market. Again I would want to look at the SEO competition module in Market Samurai to determine whether or not that is an attainable goal – competing with those top ten results and possibly even getting a front page number one listing.

That’s it for this video. I’ll see you on the next one.

Keyword Research

Video Transcription for Keyword Research

Hi. This is doctor Michael haley with www.seowebmeeting.com. And welcome to the free online course, building your WordPress blogsite from scratch. Today we are going to do key word research; because you can’t build a web site if you don’t know who your visitors are going to be… what key words you are going to target. And to do that, we’re going to use this program called Market Samuria. Click on this link. And you will fill out your name and your email address and they will send you a link to download the program. The part that we are going to use of the program is going to remain free after your trial version ends and they will not turn it off, so it is a key program to download.

The link that you use to get to this page, this one right here on my site www.seowebmeeting.com is an affiliate link. That means that if someday you wanna unlock the other features and purchase the program, they will send me a commission. So I do appreciate if you use my download link just in case someday you want it. That would be a nice “thank you” to me for introducing you to an incredible tool and providing this free online course. But fill it out, and for now, “yes”, send my free stuff. Check your email and use the download link. I will close this now, and, I don’t need my web page here anymore so I will close it. And, once you install Market Samurai and open it, it will look something like this; only it won’t have these projects already here.

Let’s do a new project to show how I would do this from scratch. I am building a web site about chiropractic, or I am a chiropractor I will use the key word chiropractor and start with this. I’m gonna tab down and it automatically populates the title and I’m going to search in english. Uhh, not “all countries and territories”, I’m interested in the united states. You know we use certain words here that might be different from words used in a different country and it’s telling you to choose an appropriate language, so I’ll just to make sure that I click on it so it knows that that’s what I indeed want. And do not include adult content. Create.

These are the various modules in Market Samurai. This is one of my favorite ones to start a web site. This is one that I use to track my results as I’m building my web site and maintaining it. And this is one that I use to you see what the competition is doing; why they might be ahead of me or how far ahead of them I am. We’re going to use key word research today. Based on my word chiropractor I’m going to generate key words. The program asked me to fill out a captcha. “dijdvtzn”… See if I got it right. and you see that Market Samurai has returned a list of two hundred active words.

I will now analyze those words. And Market Samurai returns some information about those words. I can go ahead and check all of these boxes and get more details. I wouldn’t want to do it on all two hundred words. That will tie up up the Google search engine for some time and they might get a little angry at me and ban my IP address for fifteen minutes or so if I choose to do too many requests at once. There are tools that we can use that filter these results down and eliminate the less important ones, but I’m gonna work with just the information I have here for now. I’m not going to worry about these details and we’ll show you what they do in a later video.

But for now, let me click on “searches”. And what that does is, order my results, the potential key words, by the number of searches per day. For the term “chiropractor”, it seems like we have about five thousand four hundred and twenty-five searches for day. “Chiropractic”, four thousand four hundred and thirty eight searches per day. If I had the number one web page, or, web site, for “chiropractor”, I would expect to get about two thousand two hundred and seventy eight visitors to my web site or web page per day. That’s what that is, that SEOT is the traffic value; potential daily clicks that a number one ranked site for this key term could potentially achieve.

But I am actually not after chiropractor or chiropractic. Because that is a little too broad for me since that is a service that I provide. I’m not trying to compete with my service on an international level or not a country-wide level. I am interested in a local level so I will add to my key words that terms “Pompano Beach” which is my city name, and I’ll also include my zip code and maybe even some surrounding zip codes.

But what I wanted to get from this is that the term chiropractor, chiropractic, chiropractors is also a good term to target. Chiropractic clinic: Seven hundred and thirty nationwide hits per day. That might be a good one for me to focus on as well. “chiro” mmmm maybe some people abbreviate it. I don’t know if those are people looking for a chiropractor. I’m not sure what and MCTI money is. “Chiropractors in”… Maybe that’s in a city location etcetra. “chiropractic treatment”. “chiropracter”, A hundred seventy eight people mis-spell it per day, so I could potentially pick up some visitors by including some mis-spellings. “Osteopath chiropractor”, “a chiropractor”. “MCTI money chiropractic”, I don’t know what that is. “chiropractic adjustment, “chiropractic association, British chiropractic, chiropractice, chiropractic UK, chiropractic clinics”. I will continue to scroll down and you get the idea.

So from this key word research “chiropracters” it looks like thirty three people spell it that way a day which is wrong. Chiropractic care. I can go through this list and get an idea for what good search terms are. The ones I want to focus on are chiropractor, chiropractic, chiropractors, and chiropractic clinic; with the words “Pompano Beach” after. So, those will be key words for my web site.

If I wanted to get more details on this term chiropractor, I want to just give you a quick idea how I would do that. The traffic value: let’s say that I wanted to get rid of all the terms that have less than say eighty searches per day. Let me refresh my filters, and notice now I only have eight words in my list. Not eighty searches, but eighty visitors. So the searches would be more than that, but the number-one site would be likely to get at least eighty visitors to the site.

A phrase to broad ratio… you don’t really need to know what that means, but you can just say fifteen percent and refresh your filters, and that might get rid of a couple more. I’m already down to six, uhh I have no reason to filter down any further so with that let me analyze my key words more and fill in the competition module.

Now, here we see some problems. Although the term chiropractor has five thousand searches per day, there are over five million competing web pages. It will be very difficult to get a number one page with over five million competing pages. I will have to make it a longer key word phrase like “chiropractor pompano beach” “chiropractor Miami Florida” “chiropractor-whereever your service is, wherever” “Plumber Fort Lauderdale”, “Plumber New York”. You get the idea. So that’s how we use this information to get more details and see, “can we compete on that level?”.

That’s it for now. I’ll see you on the next video.
